We are a military family that will be relocating to SD at the end of this year. I have heard that we should not live anywhere in the southside of SD. We have two grade school children that we need to consider as far as school districts. We don't want too long of a commute to and from work. My husband will be working at Balboa and I will be looking for a job in Finance/Accounting when we move. We want a central location to everything including school and work. A safe neighborhood is very important and we want to keep our mortgage payment around $3k.

Where should we start looking?

Thanks for any info. you can give us as we are hoping to retire in SD.

You might want to look into the areas that belong to the Poway Unified School District. It's the best in the county. I don't know the exact places that belongs to that school district... maybe someone can give you the names?

Poway Unified School District -Home page

Their site has information about boundaries and feeder schools under "About PUSD". And an address-lookup capability.

I would look in Clairemont. You can find plenty of nice homes and schools are abundant.
