Getting away for the Labor Day weekend. Would appreciate any suggestions for good, decent hotels on or very close to the beach. We're bringing a 19 & 21 yr. old who want to be near or within walking distance to the beach, boardwalk and restaurants. We'll be flying in from Phoenix so plan on walking to most places. Not familiar enough w/San Diego to know where or not where to stay. We realize location near the beach will be more expensive. Not a problem. Worth it....just want to relax! Would appreciate any help/suggestions.
Thank-you for your time.

I have 3 recommendations:
Hotel Del Coronado (Coronado)
The Lodge at Torrey Pines (La Jolla)
La Valencia Hotel (La Jolla)

None of these are cheap, or even reasonably priced.

The Catamaran Resort Hotel is very nice also and it is within walking distance to the beach, bay and restaurants.

One more thing-The hotels Sassberto mentioned are all incredible and the Catamaran isn't quite in the same league, but you would have some money left over to have a great time!
