Hi i am from Rochester, NY and i am looking to move to California. i was originally going to go to SMC in Santa Monica but after not being able to find a cheap apartment i figured id look in San Diego since it is a tad cheaper and i was just wondering what places were safe to live an what not. I've been to San Diego 3 times but never really liked it. Its always seemed so slow and boring compared to LA so is there anywhere near a community college that's cheap and has a sick night life and is just all around fun. ill also need a job though so i need a place that would be close to some source of employment.

San Diego is NOT LA,so if you don't like it from the start.I'd move to LA ,so you can be happy.Good luck.

Either have a job lined up or plenty of money to tide you over, before you move to San Diego.

Why aren't you looking at other community colleges around LA? SMC isn't the only one in the area.

LACCD

And those prices you saw in Santa Monica aren't representative of all of LA. There are plenty of cheap areas in LA to live in, if that's where you want to be.

San diego has a community college Downtown, and the cheapest Monthly hotel is around $500 month-Golden West Hotel about 2 miles away. There is the Plaza that rents monthly rooms starting at $560 month.

San Diego City College is downtown-a little east. I have a little crush on the Golden Hill neighborhood which is adjacent to the college and downtown. I think you could find a cheap clean rental-but you could also find a skeezy drug den. The neighborhood is next to downtown/East Village and South Park is to the north. It is definitely urban and bit rough around the edges, but I think it would be safe enough if you have sense.

You'd be better off finding a place with a roommate, than renting a room in an SRO for the same rent.
