I am trying to determine what communities are considered "communities of interest" around SDSU. Communities of interest includes shopping areas, churches, living areas, entertainment areas, etc....any thoughts? I am trying to get a good idea of the surrounding areas around SDSU, do you have anything in common with communities south of El Cajon Blvd?

These sound like the comments of someone who has become involved with the City's redistricting process.

El Cerrito and Rolando are the obvious communities of interest for SDSU. Both Rolando residents and College students shop at the Vons at ECB & College Avenue. Plus at least one developer thought he could entice college students to live in a mega-dorm he hoped to build near Clay Park in Rolando.

Somewhere buried deep within the bowels of City-Data, you will find a post from a former SDSU student who recounts his/her apartment hunting days and when he/she inquired into a City Heights apartment and was told by the locals that this area isn't for you.

Kensington and Talmadge are sometimes considered communities of interest with the College, but actually have distinct differences from the College Area. Neither neighborhood has that many college students living in them, and neither suffered from the mini-dorm problem. Also, these neighborhoods are substantially older than the College and the College Area.

Outside of the city, La Mesa seems to be influenced by the College.
