Advertisements

Any specific recommendations for a short summer trip (with two 10-year old boys). Thanks in advance.:

- lodging (clean, reasonably priced, pool nice)
- activities ( mostly paved safe bike trails, hikes, other )
- eats
- other stuff

Well it's a little away from where you're suggesting but personally, I prefer Lake Arrowhead. I've camped there a couple of times. It's less crowded, less touristy and a bit more quaint IMO. For regular lodging you can try the town of Lake Arrowhead. There's also Blue Jay, and a bit farther is Crestline but I'm not sure if there's much lodging in Crestline. Big Bear is not too far of a drive away and it's very scenic. Beautiful mountain wilderness in that area.

We've camped and used cabins at big bear. There is some good fishing and nice bike routes that go part way around the lake but you can also ride up the roads for more distance. Google big bear motels or cabins and you'll get a ton of hits that you can sort by prices. There is even a retro game room (or used to be). Check out the alpine slide and water park.

couple of the cheaper motels. If you want a cabin or such there are thousands.
