One of the reasons I love the city is the accessibility of great, fresh ingredients and foods. I could live off of Chef Boyardee and Cheerios but when I have a girlfriend, nothing says love more than a bottle of wine and a fresh home made meal. Can I pick your brains again and gather opinions on places to shop?

Can I get a recommendation for a good bakery, somewhere where they bake their own breads?

Same thing but different flare, what about an asian bakery/asian desserts?

Cuts of meat & fillets of fish, where is a good butcher?

What about good home-made sausage, something like mint-lamb or garlic-gorgonzola-pork?

I imagine Little Italy has a few places who make their own pastas/raviolis, any recommendations?

Any spots with a large olive bar?

Oh - almost forgot, cheese. Who has great blocks of cheese?

Veggies & fruits I got, there's plenty of farmers markets scattered around the city.

No chains or franchises plz - I know Whole Foods has a few spots in SD that I could always utilize if needed.

Answer what you can, all feedback is greatly appreciated. Btw, you all rock! Thanks again.

Let's see, I can help with a few, I think.

For good bread, you might try Bread on Market if you're looking for bread.

If you're looking for pastries try Extraordinary Desserts

For Asian desserts, I'm trying to think. My husband's really into that sort of thing. Your best bet might be Mitsuwa in Kearny Mesa.

I can't recommend a place for sausage that you take home and cook, but if you want some of the best sausages ever, go have dinner at The Linkery.

Anyway, that's about as much help as I can be. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.

V. =)

ETA: I just looked at The Linkery website and see they do sell their sausages raw to be cooked at home for $4.50/each. They are truly the best sausages you'll ever eat. I miss that place so much!
