How Does Santa Monica Beach Compare to our Pacific Beach? Which is a prettier beach? What are the pros cons of each beach?

SM much much more upscale, no beach bums and frat boys there. Unaffordable homes and luxury shopping, world class level.

umm..uh.... SM is also much more downscale, many more bums, dirtier.

PB and SM are completely different. PB is a relative bargain, full of college kids, surfers, and people from out of town. SM is for the richest and the poorest people in the world, very few in between.

One think about santa Monica beach- the beach bathrooms are amazing. Single stalls, pristine. Every SD area beach restroom I have used has been right out of a horror movie. I realize it's the beach and all, but toilet paper and soap would be nice. Believe it or not Coronado is the worst offender.

Santa Monica is more urban, less suburban. I was there recently and have to say I saw a lot of homeless lying on the beach mid-day. Of beaches I've seen in LA/OC, I'd compare PB more (and MB for that matter) to the Balboa Penninsula near Newport. Very similar vibe--lots of rentals and renters and lots of young people, similar home styles with alleys, tight parking, etc. I don't know if we have a beach that compares to Santa Monica.

I noticed that also in Santa Monica (at $10.00 to park your car, they better be pristine!). Ironically, too, I find LaJolla to be on the list of worst offenders in the restroom department.
