Hello. I plan on visiting San Diego in a few weeks. I want to visit Tijuana. My plan is to get to the border around noon, cross over, take a cab to the tourist district, go to a club, eat something at a restaurant and cross back over into the US. I do not want to spend more than 90 mins in Mexico via taxi. Will this be safe? I only plan on staying 90 mins, the taxi will take me to and from the border during the day. Thanks!

it could take forever (ok, hours) to got back over the border. I have been to Mexico 6x in my life, and I have not been to Tijuana yet and I have lived here almost a year. Mostly because of the hassle involved. Anyway your plan is not unsafe, just a pain and probably not worth the trouble.

Walking over the border is typically MUCH faster vs driving.

I can say that I am fortunate enough to know people that either grew up there or need to travel there for family reasons, hence my exposure has been more on the locals level.

You should be fine during the day and at 90s mins total, will give you enough time to cruise the Revolution area.
It would be a fun quick trip, but so long as your expectations are in line. Going down Revolucion is like going down 42nd street in New York and saying you got the whole NYC experience lol.
There are some places that wont have prices on anything. Which will force you to negotiate prices if you are looking to buy stuff. This can be good or bad depending on how much you are willing to spend

Just keep in mind that even for 90 mins, you are NOT in the US. The rules are not the same, this keep a level head, your wallet close and you should have a good time.

Nope, and as far as I know, you have to show a passport or passport card at the border to cross back into the US. I don't know if they still let you use a driver's license.

Nope. You need either a passport or sentry card.

i cant say I am one for organized tours but maybe you can look into it. I googled the below (not an endorsement). By the way you don't have to take a cab from the border to the square...you can actually walk if you want to.
