Traveling Nurse headed to San Diego - 3 months (sublets, condos)

Hi everybody

I know this is another moving to San Diego thread but I'm hoping it's different enough to warrant some unique responses. At the moment we are in the Bay Area on a different job but my wife starts a 3 month position at Rady's children's hospital on January 9th.

So now we are looking for a place to live. We are very interested in being close to the beach. I've been looking at sublets all down Mission Boulevard and into La Jolla. Here are a couple important points:

Budget - 1900 furnished
Size - does not matter, We've been looking at 400sq ft studios
Location - within walking (or biking) distance to the beach
Commute - Wife has to get to Rady's in under a half hour since she may be on call. Would prefer something under 20 minutes. I'm thinking this won't be that difficult since we are only looking west of the hospital.
Safety - this is very important to us
Possible Dealbreaker - we do have a small 15 pound Boston Terrier.

Keep in mind that we will only be in the area for 3 months. I know most people wouldn't want to "live" in certain places due to tourism or w/e but since it's more like an extended vacation, we are very interested.

I would really appreciated any input possible. We will not have the opportunity to get down there before our move so everything will be done over the phone. Thank you all for your help

If you want to live by the beach and close to your wife's workplace, those are good places to be looking. You may want to take a look at OB, too.

It's a tall order. You may want to reconsider taking the housing offered by her company. $1900 for what you want (esp 3 month) may be very hard to find and not worth the effort.

There are some condos on Spectrum Center Drive 10 minutes from Rady's. If you google and call you may be able to find what you want but I tend to think that it will be in the $2500 range. Good luck.

From where Rady's is, it's not a long drive to get to the beaches. Given your budget and your wife's need to get to Rady's easily, I'd suggest to look close to where your wife is working.
