Does anyone know details about the neighborhoods? Or a good website to visit.

Thanks in advance!!
I am born and raised in Michigan. Moved out to SD 8 years ago. It's a great city with perfect weather, affordable organic produce and endless outdoor activities.

The downside is the cost of living. Renting isn't too bad, but if you want to buy a home the prices are pretty ridiculous.

I do not advise living 30-60 minutes inland. You'll be so far out of the city, you won't get to enjoy it. There's tons of redneck tweekers east of San Diego. Don't get me wrong, there's some isolated areas that are super nice, but the majority of east county is trashy as hell.

If you want to experience quality restaurants, the museums, farmers markets, etc. I would stay as close to downtown and the coast as possible (don't go south of downtown).

My favorite neighborhoods are:

Hillcrest/Bankers Hill/Mission Hills
University Heights/Normal Heights (North of Adams Ave)
Parts of North Park
South Park
Kensington

Coastal:
Point Loma
Bird Rock
Cardiff
Encinitas
Solana Beach

East County areas:
La Mesa is nice. That's as far east as I would be willing to live.
Poway is for the breeders. One of the best school districts in CA. It gets hot as hell out there!

You can find a really nice home in the "College area" (by SDSU) for around 350K. By nice, I mean in a quality neighborhood with little to no work needed on the home. College area is just west of La Mesa.

I know tons of successful professionals that prefer to rent, since they can still save $$ and not be house poor.

If you have any questions feel free to send me a message.

Hope this helps!

Bzzzzt! Wrong answer. Try again.

East county has a few nicer areas, and a few trashier areas. The rest of the east county is rural, which is very nice unless you don't happen to like rural.

That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I would never move 2300 miles to live in east county San Diego.
