Hello. My husband and I are looking to move to a warmer (less snowy) climate. We have no plans on having a family, love the arts, and the water. Ideally, we would like to live inland about a half hour to an hour from the coast.

Does anyone know details about the neighborhoods? Or a good website to visit.

Thanks in advance!!

You might look into Mission Hills, North park, Kensington, or Downtown especially up near Balboa Park. But, of course. much depends on if you have to work, and where you get a job as well as your housing budget. San Diego housing in general will be more expensive than Michigan.

If you like a little slower pace and warmer temps Scripps Ranch and Poway are about 30 minutes to the coast. I would recommend that you come here and walk around.

Here are a few links for you to check out.

If you want to experience what most people think of when it comes to San Diego, I wouldn't move too far inland. With the microclimates, a few miles makes a huge difference. Downtown is about 15 miles from El Cajon, but when it's 70 degrees here, it can be 90 there.

Your very lucky being able to move to SD. Hubby & I lived in SD for 6 years and LOVED every second of it. Wish we could move back there, but can't. You will LOVE the weather. Your car insurance will double, that's all I can tell you as far as expenses go. Good luck & the best of everytjhing...

that's the only think that we found cheaper here. Dirt cheap! I guess it all depends on where you were before coming here.

The inland areas have larger temp variances than coastal. It depends on what floats your boat.
I am helping a family member get a house in Ramona who is originally from the north east.
He was like TONS of others that came here with the initial thought about coastal living. Its great no doubt to live within that microclimate but when I took him up the hill into the mountain area, he fell in love with it.
From a temperature standpoint, there is a trade off, but the quality of life up there is great if you dont need to drive to work ' down the hill'.
It definitely has more of a 4 seasons vibe up there without the Noreasters or the Great Lakes effect.

Keep in mind, the mountains can be less than an hour drive to get to. So when you say 30mins -hr drive, it can put you right up there. 30 mins from the coast puts you in east county or north county inland which for some people that never travel around the county, is like the backwoods.

Hey Guys, when I lived there before, we were in Rancho Penasquitos but came into dt San Diego frequently. What I don't remember is whether Point Loma was part of that microclimate. Is the haze and gloom more prevalent in Point Loma, say than Clairemont? Thanks!!

I would say yes, Point Loma has more haze and gloom, except maybe for the westernmost parts of Clairmont Mesa.
