I believe that the issue was (and is) that this man chose to drive on a license which had been lawfully suspended and was caught doing so. Would you agree with that assessment?

The OP was a one trick pony from a year past, likely a troll.

Unfortunately the OP is like many persons who drive drunk. Statistically most people who do so are not caught until the 7th time they drive under the influence. State and local law enforcement while doing a good job of stepping up to corral these criminals is inadequate.

Alcohol is processed in the human body as glucose. For that reason people who drink alcohol to excess become dependent upon it's consumption. They spare no expense to obtain it. Like other addictions, people who use alcohol organize most of their waking hours around the obtaining of it. Unlike other addictions like cigarettes, gambling etc. when a person who has recently binged gets behind the wheel it can be a lethal combination. Again, unfortunately the people killed are typically the innocent pedestrian, the children in the back seat or the oncoming drivers. The carnage at a collision causes most strong men and women to pause.

It is for that reason that people who, like the OP continue to drive under the influence are one of the most dangerous serial predators in our society as the substance they choose is perfectly lawful.
Fortunately, and like the OP most addictions have a plunge point, where the behavior typically gets so out of control that friends, family or community members sound the alarm and the person is either hospitalized or put in prison.

Readers should understand that implicit in this disease is denial. Many of us have watched a person jaundiced and yellow begging for one more drink as they truly believe that the alcohol will cure them. Such is the "trick" of the alcohol. Packed more tightly than most dense foods, alcohol mimics real food, high carbs, high sugars and the body instantly recognizes it as such and......wants more. It is the reason that people who drink to excess have very poor diets and appear to us as unhealthy. The yellow person I mentioned within hours slipped into a coma and stopped breathing, and then died.

The OP may play games about his or her habits but deep down they recognize now that something is critically wrong. Yet, statistically they will not stop. It's not the fact that they dont' wish to, it's the sense that they are actually giving their body the "perfect food".

This is a very serious issue. In the ER we meet these people typically with a highway patrol officer at the bedside. We stick needles in their arms and draw blood. We attempt to talk with them about where they actually are just one step above jail and two steps above the morgue. Most times it works and they listen and we are able to talk to them and provide information so that they can adjust their behaviors and get help. When they don't listen we use other techniques to get their attention. All of us who are on the front lines of this war with carnage to spare are very serious people. We intend to help you or put you in jail. We intend to take away your car and to extract the maximum punishment which the law will allow. A typical 1st DUI costs about $20K now. Due to the law passed at the behest of Dr. Leon Owens we will take your car away. In the ER if you are aggressive we will tie you down and offer you treatments to "take the edge off" and then turn you offer to the Sheriff. We intend to stop you, and when you enter our world we are not going to be nice.

The OP should be warned. If you violate these laws, you will not be with friends from the minute we set eyes upon you. You are a threat to society and you will be treated as such.

The alcohol laws are too strict these days. There are plenty of things that make people bad drivers-being drowsy, eating, being old, being inexperienced, texting, talking- you can't legislate against all of them. Being 0.08 is buzzed driving, not drunk driving. Someone who blows that or slightly above is perfectly capable of driving competently if he puts his mind to the task.

And if you get pulled over and are driving recklessly because you're drunk then the most that should happen is that you lose your license. These obscene fines and jail time are ridiculous.
