I've never lived in Coronado but I don't need to to tell you that it would be a great place for kids to grow up. It's very safe, schools are supposed to be great, beautiful homes, great beaches.

If you can comfortably afford it, I'd say the grass is a LOT greener in Coronado vs. other areas.

The only downside is probably going to be the same as other very affluent areas where you might feel like a bit of a bubble for the kids growing up in. But I think being a parent you can do things so they aren't in such a "bubble".

I also don't understand the concern that you're not in the military. Many there in the community aren't in the military. I can't see you haven't any problems at all.

Definitely tourists and traffic can be a factor but it can be in La Jolla as well. Traffic is fairly bad in La Jolla coming and going.

I'd say you have to evaluate the things that are most important to you. You mention things like being in Coronado but then possibly moving to suburbia and places like Carlsbad which is totally different vs. a place like Coronado. So which things are important to you?

DEFINITELY you're wise to rent a year or so and see how you like it. That would be a huge investment to buy and not be sure you want to be living in that area for the long-term and then having to sell.

Let us know what you decided to do and good luck.

Gorgeous part of San Diego (yes, I know it's its own city), very nice to stroll the neighborhoods and check out the houses, the small downtown shops and restaurants, and it is the beach I go to-seven minutes from my house and I'm on the wide sandy beach.

It is very provincial, small town and conservative though. Adolescents to 30 year olds will be terminally bored, (and as a 50 y.o. it is way too sleepy for me), but for the rest I imagine it is just this side of paradise.

I would love to hear from someone who has gone there or who has a child there to understand the pros/cons. I believe it is a blue ribbon school and has a great school rating of 9 (out of 10) but there were some comments about drugs, elitism, etc. that are troubling. I know many communities struggle with these issues. I'd like to get a sense of how pervasive these problems are at CHS. Also, approximately how many students in each class? How competitive are their sports teams?
