Our good friends, a couple in their late '50's are moving to the Escondido area for work. They are very friendly midwestern-types and would be looking for a townhome in a good neighborhood.

I know very little about Escondido and Carlsbad... What would be some neighborhoods in those cities they should look at? Is there anywhere with a good walking area with shops? That would be up their alley.

Thanks so much for any info!!!

Escondido is a big place. Where will they be working in Escondido? What's their housing budget?

I don't have a whole lot more info... Just that they're used to living in college towns, upper middle class, hopefully with a walking downtown. Is there anything like that in Escondido or Carlsbad or towns inbetween?

Escondido isn't exactly what I would consider a desirable area.....
Carlsbad is. San Marcos is a college town and has some nicer areas than Escondido. Cant give much more info without numbers and what type of work. You mentioned they are in their late 50s, the job market is very tough here.

I have a sister in a beautiful, upscale area of Escondido, but it's a little remote. Mountain Meadows or Hidden Meadows or something like that. It's probably 5 miles on the freeway to the nearest grocery store.

She used to live in Carlsbad but moved inland for the sunnier, warmer weather.

I'd have to take a WAG at what they'd be willing to spend... I'd guess it would be around 325K for a 2 bedroom?
