Hello all,

I'm returning to San Diego with my family, it's been about 8 years since I have lived there. We were looking into a place near the intersection of Shadowridge and Lupine Hills. I'm wondering if this is a safe place for a family with small children? What kind of crime happens here? Any gang influences I this area? I've been reading the forums a while now, and the impression I get of Vista is not so hot. Even my step daughter who lives in Temecula says Vista is bad. Any advice would be great!

Z

Since it's about a block from a country club I'm sure it can't be too bad. I once looked at a house on Cottage Way near there and it seemed perfectly safe and nice. This is the southern part of Vista, known as Shadowridge, and it's not seedy at all. Just a small step down from Carlsbad. Vista north of the 78 is much spottier and has some terrible schools.

My sister and nephew lived there for several years. That part of Vista is quite nice. No crime, that I'm aware of. Have a look at Vista politics, though, before you invest there. They seem to be stymied in their attempt to improve the 'challenged' parts of Vista.

What does that mean? No progress for other "good" parts if the city? I'm just renting for now. I may or may not stay in Vista long term. Depends on how we like it.

The area you speak of is a lovely location and I agree, a small step down from Carlsbad. The more challenged, seedier area is North of the 78 and is divided from the nicer parts of Vista by the 78 freeway.

Vista has seedier areas north of I-78. I've lived in San Diego for 30 years, and there's been no improvement there as far as I can see. Nor does it seem likely that there will be, in the foreseeable future. Though, someone who lives closer to that area may know better than I do.

It appears they revitalized it a little in that time with the movie theater and all of those restaurants in Vista Village. Even though it's North of the 78, it's still nice in that area.
