I have never lived on the west coast before but am seriously considering taking a move. Everyone is recommending San Diego. However, I would like to know some info about it first...

- Are there any bad areas? Which areas to avoid? Part of the reason I'm considering moving is because how dangerous my area of FL is getting. I would not want to move into the same problems I'm going away from.

- Info on taxes on houses? Taxing info in general?

- Are the people friendly?

- Are there lots of places to take bike rides/jogs, etc.?

- Is speaking Spanish imporant?

- A lot of stuff to do? Is it a fun area to live in?

- Any other info I should know?

Thanks. I figure someone will provide some answers.

R/E Taxes are 1% of the purchase price of the house plus a smidge extra in fees, probably 1.1%.

State Income taxes are high. The top rate is 10.3%. Most people probably top out at a top marginal rate of 8% though. Sales taxes tend to be high too. 7%-8.75% depending on where you are in the state.

I would say there are only a few truly bad areas, a few more that are not good, most are decent, and some are spectacular.

I agree with what JK said in response to the other questions.
