My family is planning on relocating to North County area (Poway, CV, Del Mar) because of the family oriented lifestyle etc. Can anyone recommend good executive recruiters who focus on the tech / mobile fields? I am on mgt side (15 yrs post MBA) of tech. Looking to work in North County area or downtown in tech or tech side of private equity. Thanks in advance for any leads on recruiters, contacts at good firms, or any relevant comments, advice, etc.

I worked with some head-hunting firms a few years back during my job search in Internet marketing. I'm not sure if they service your industry, but it's not a bad place to start. They might be able to refer you to the right people if they can't help.
Try Modis (they have an office in Carmel Valley) or Aquent (located in University Town Center).
Good luck!

NYC2SDOC,
I am in this industry (cellular) here in San Diego. From NYC actually as well

What area of the field are you looking at specifically? R&D, Sales? Do you have experience in this industry or are you looking to make the jump?

Generally speaking, all of the manufacturers of mobile devices are here in some fashion (mostly R&D). Many of them are our clients. If you have been in this business for a while, then you are probably aware that it shifts quite a bit. About the only thing that keeps the industry here is Qualcomm. There is pretty heavy consolidation movement happening right now with some of the larger companies in this field moving their sales/marketing and logistics either overseas or to another hub in the US. R&D however is sticking around for at least the next decade as LTE blossoms and true 4G emerges.

If you want more specific info regarding recruiting, you can PM me if you like and we can chat.

If you haven't already, start a LinkedIn and Plaxo Pulse account and put your business experience there. Start networking. It's all free for most users.

Recruiters will also look for you.

Qualcomm can be a challenge to get into as a program manager. I used to work there as an engineer.

Yes, it is the big company in telecom here, but there are some others. San Diego also has numerous small tech companies in areas other than telecom. Most of their names will not ring a bell.
