Hi everyone,

I am single with no kids and looking for a place to live around the San Diego area in September and need some advice. I loved San Diego the last time I was there and previously lived in LA. I'm looking for a place that is quiet and safe and has parking. I don't go out to eat or shop or party, so I don't really care about being close to bars, shops or places to eat. I'm working out of state, so I also don't have a commute to worry about, I just want to be roughly 20 minutes from the beach, if possible. I'm concerned because every apartment complex I look at has horrible reviews. The ones I liked the best so far are the Venetian of La Jolla, Village Square in La Jolla and Sunny Creek in Carlsbad, but if anyone has any other ideas, I'd like to know. I'm looking to spend around $1200 for an apartment per month, either studio or one bedroom. I'm working 3 weeks on and have 2 weeks off to spend in the apartment, and my job flies me to and from work (it's pretty secure and I'm making $80,000/year). I just don't want my two weeks off to be spent somewhere awful or get all my stuff stolen while I'm out of town (I really just want to spend the whole time I'm there surfing). Anyone with any suggestions for apartments? Are the ones I listed any good? This is a very frustrating search.

Sorry, I don't have any specific recommendations. But when you read reviews, keep in mind that the people most likely to post a review are those with some gripe to air.

Sorry, cant help you on those specific complexes, but in SD, 20 mins to the beach should be fairly easy. However getting to specific breaks can tack on some more time.
Do you know where you will be riding? Some popular spots are Swami's, Cardiff State and of course Trestles.
There are always breaks in SD somewhere for the most part.
I am in Southeastern part of San Diego and quick access for me are Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs.
I dont surf, I just shoot with my Canon and tele lenses.

I would look at UTC (92037) area for apartments or stick with some of the more well known apartment management companies like Archstone. They have a location in UTC, Downtown and I believe still in Escondido.
