We are about to move into a new house and the neighbors have also just moved in and installed solar panels. They are now paying a fixed cost of $135 per month for electricity and having spoken to SDE&G we have been advised that our monthly bills will be an average of $195 and maybe as much as $340 based on the current usage. Solar panels are looking attractive but I can't help thinking there HAS to be some pitfalls or why haven't all homeowners installed them ? What experience do you have? Grateful for any advice.

We recently looked into solar power for our home and while we decided against it for reasons I won't go into here and probably wouldn't apply to most property owners anyway, the company we consulted with was very informative and no-pressure in their sales approach. I'd recommend contacting them at least for a free consultation and to get answers to some of your questions, some of which we had too. They're called Sullivan Solar Power and they are based in the Miramar section of San Diego, but they serve most of Southern California.
