To add. As a rule of thumb, 'most' places will that will generally be more than 30 mins from the beach will be well east of the 15 freeway (closer to the 67) heading into the foothills or mountains.

Basically look at Poway and go east from there, then look north and south. Those areas can be 30 mins plus.

It's pretty safe to say that most residents of SD Metro live within 30 minutes of the beach, so just focus on where you want to live and what you can afford. Just know that the family family-friendly areas closer the coast, ie, Carmel Valley, Coronado, Del Mar, Carlsbad, etc. are typically less affordable than places further inland.

Everything is within 30 minutes. If you drive longer, you're either heading into the mountains and into the desert, or worse, you've hit LA.

Want safe for families, good schools and about 10-20 minutes from the beach by car? If you're open pricewise, check out Poway, Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa, Ranch Bernardo, Carmel Valley, Rancho Penasquitos. These communities have weekend farmers markets, community programs, rec center sports for kids, great athletic programs, neighborhood watches, 4th of July parades and raise their own money for fireworks.
