I have noticed that Santee has some of the best values in SD County. Considering it's location, school, safe neighborhoods, and the freeway straight to UTC, is it the best bang for your buck?

4,000 square foot homes going for 700k

2,000 square foot homes going for 300k

These prices are compareable to Oceanside or better! I think it's the nicest city in commutable East SD County (not including the mountain/canyon areas).

I really don't know much about Santee. I had a friend who lived in a condo there. She seemed to like it. Lost touch with her. Don't know if she still lives there.

Spend 10% more and you can live in the low-end neighborhoods of Poway. They look almost identical, basically the same people live there, and they have better schools.

I heard it is cheaper there because they have more pollution. I have been there once with the Orange Line and was surpirsed. everything surrounding the Orange Line seemed to be cleaner, new and simply better than San Diego. Yet you really have the feeling to be in the desert compared to some cities that are closer to the coast.

Bumping this because my wife and I are relocating to Santee, or a similar city in CA.
Any information on Santee would be greatly appreciated.
We are looking for a safe place near los angeles. I am a musician and she is a model, but we have day jobs. Not to sound racist, but I don't want to be the minority where I live. We did the Austin, TX thing and it is totally not what it used to be down there. If I'm going to live overpopulated then it's going to be california, just saying.

Santee is not near Los Angeles at all. It at least two hours away from the outer limits and often double that with traffic.

Santee is a great option for San Diego for people who seek realness rather than some the materialism. Just because people in Santee don't drive Mercedes like the elites in La Jolla, posters shouldn't put it down. It has a great all-American way of life.

There's not much like Santee, near LA.. I would say the closest would be Simi Valley which is still an hour away.

I live in Santee, it is a great place to live. People that have never lived here, like to say bad things about Santee. But that is not true. The schools are great, That is why all the kids from San Diego want to go to Westhills. Santee also is not as dirty as a place like Clairmont. And you also don't have bums sleeping on your front porch like at the beach. Santee is a safe neigborhood. With a low crime rate. I have lived all over San Diego. From the Beach to Poway. I still pick Santee.

You know, Santee is another place that is misunderstood. I frequently head Mission Gorge Road for one-stop shopping. Everything is there and it's not as congested as Mission Valley on weekends. It's clean, too. Once I discovered that area, I remember thinking, if this is Santee, it's not bad at all.

I'm sure the area towards Lakeside is another story. No offense to Lakeside. Is there even a forumer here that lives in Lakeside?
