What would your ideal solution be? In the most extreme example, we could spend tons of tax dollars on having local law enforcement dedicated to personality profiling everyone. But then we would only wind up spending more money and maybe preventing events like this from happening.

The real question is, where do you draw the line? Forget the news and the media side commentary, focus on how a solution would look first. There is always going to be that one story that comes from out of nowhere and is almost unpreventable and this is it.

Extremely unfortunate is what it is and just awful.
I guess I see where you are coming from. I don't expect police to look into everything or security cards everywhere.

I am really interested in criminal psychology so I watch a lot of documentaries on YouTube mainly, about these events and others similar.

I am aware in cases where a minor is involved, the gun either comes from a legal adult like a friend or from their own house.

I know there are those that cry wolf and ends up not being a threat but I think sometimes if some things have more than one red flag or complaint, they should be looked into too. I know there are people that slip through the cracks. I'm aware of that.

I do think that gun sales should be thoroughly monitored. If a person can't buy a car without registering with some form of governmental authority, I don't understand why it would be impossible to do the same with guns.

I've been thinking about this a lot and you can blame schools, families and employers for not seeing things coming, but mass murder would be a heck of a lot easier to prevent if people had a harder time of getting their hands on dangerous weapons. It wouldn't get rid of the problem. Mass murders do happen in all parts of the world, even those that have actual gun control legislation and implement it regularly. But you just can't compare the frequency of these types of events with the reality of what happens in the U.S.

Sorry.
Don't get me wrong, I think that Holmes is a slimeball and if it didn't cost more to go through the appeals process for the death penalty than to lock him up forever, I'd be all for it.

But even slimeballs like him need to be granted a trial by jury, the presumption of innocence, and all the other rights the Constitution guarantees us.

Accused criminals are usually bad people. But we grant rights to bad people, even if we don't want to. That's what makes us different than a lot of places.

Until he's convicted by a jury of his peers, he's innocent. Until the foreman of the jury says "guilty," he is innocent. That is how our system works and that's how we want it to work. It's only the cornerstone of our justice system.
