Oh, gross. I was sorting my laundry for a trip to the laundromat tomorrow and a cricket jumped out (and I think it was female -- it had what I guess was an ovipositor or whatever it's called). Gross!

Oh, gah, what is the best way to clean my clothes so nothing nasty from that cricket stays on them? Just wash on hot and dry on high? I usually do that with white vinegar added in the rinse cycle. Is there anything else I should do? Do I have to throw out my underwear and stuff like that?

I've already shaken a bunch out and removed these pellets or god knows what they were.

Remember, I use a laundromat, so I can't customize cycles or anything like that. EeeWWWW

Crickets are considered good luck and rather nice little creatures.

Just wash it like you normally do. Think about all of the things that get onto your laundry that are far nastier than a cricket. The sweat that I put into the shirts I work out in or the stuff that gets on my socks has got to be far worse than a cricket.

Good Grief, it is a cricket, just wash your clothes and move on. You are more likely to have residuals from using a laundromat than you got from the cricket.

That's why I use vinegar as a fabric softener. Has the nice side effect of killing things, along with the hot water and high-heat drying I use.

As for just a cricket, yeah, if it were just the cricket, okay, but those pellets were what really set off the creep-out factor. Ick!

A friend's told me to bleach things (either chlorine or color-safe) and do the hot water wash/hot dry thing, and that it was mainly the ick factor regarding possible egg-laying (which all the heat would kill), so I'm calmer now.

It's a cricket to you, but to someone with a fear of bugs, it's an enemy out to eat my clothing. Gross!!!

It's not so much the cricket as the little things it left behind. Just the bug is one thing (despite my freaking out, which I totally reserve the right to do), but anything else... euch....

Better not walk on the sidewalk then. Animals far bigger than that cricket leave things behind. And despite our best efforts to clean those up, we don't get all of it.

Seriously, humans leave far bigger and far worse things on their clothes than a cricket would. Just do your laundry like you normally would and it will be fine.

JehJeh - since you have a thing about bugs, I'd suggest you avoid certain parts of East County . . . .here is what I found under our washing machine:

Potatobugs.com - 2

I'm not particularly bothered by bugs . . . but my reaction to this thing was the mix of revulsion, fear and fascination that seems to be the usual reaction. But after reading a bit more about these basically harmless creatures and some of the things that prey on THEM (the movie Aliens comes to mind), I kinda feel sorry for them.
