This is my fourth year in San Diego and I cannot remember any prior year coming close to the intensity, frequency, and duration of the heat we've had this year. Maybe some long-term SD residents can answer this question - has this been an average Aug/Sep/Oct? Maybe I've just lucked out the past few years. And yes - I know that's what the OP asked but since the thread was started it has stayed pretty hot so I guess I'm just looking for updated opinions.

Like Oddstray wrote, August and September can be hot. Evil, in fact. September is usually the hottest month of the year, and for the past few years there's been one week where it's been *really* hot, like over 100 everywhere except maybe right on the sand in front of the waves at the beach. Wasn't it 113 in September 2011? Or was that 2010? One of those years.

This summer has been very hot and humid -- I've been here since 1997 and lived here in the late '80s/early '90s, and this has been the worst. This past winter was the warmest I've experienced here, too. So no, 2012 is not typical. Normally the humidity we've been getting has occurred only when the remnants of a tropical depression pass over, and I mean real remnants, with rain, thunder, and everything else -- not the wispy clouds we saw from the one a few days ago.

The past couple of years were slightly cooler into July, but by September they were super hot. But the heat died back rather quickly after that. I'm hoping this is it for the heat and that things cool rapidly. It is supposed to drop into the mid 70s next week for a lot of areas; personally, I'll jump for joy when I start seeing highs in the 60s (I'm at my happiest when highs are in the 50s, so this summer has been awful).

Official temps as of 3:50pm, nothing looks too out of the ordinary for this time of year. The dry air never really came since the dewpoint at the airport hit 67 a couple hours ago.

It really wasn't the scorcher they said it would be today, was it? Hot, but not unbearably so. I love when temps go from the 90s to 70s all in one week in October, and the nights become sweater weather...

this should be the last heat wave that lasts more than 2-3 days. in october it can still get warm but cools down from the 90 degree weather. weather projections for next week are in the low 80s. god i hope that's true

It got up to 81 downtown, which is about ten degrees lower than they said it'd be. It's supposed to drop into the 60s tonight, and only get up to the mid 80s tomorrow. But if it's ten degrees cooler like it was today...

Forecasters said it was going to be cooler today, but it's actually hotter than yesterday. They never get it right

Haha I'm glad. I had yesterday off and found the temps to be quite tolerable. Today I'm at work in the AC

It got into the low 90s downtown, and supposedly this is it. We may have, gasp, BELOW NORMAL temps next week.
