went back for the second visit last night. It was a rough one. No matter how much anesthesia they use, I always feel something. He had to grind down and clean out the tooth for the crown. Final visit is on the 30th for the crown placement. The only saving grace was the line coning back to the US via San Ysidro. 10 minute wait.

I had a root canal, and then a crown put on, but I didn't feel a thing.

How long is the root canal and crown guaranteed?

Forever.

If I need any adjustments or have any problems, I just call and make an appointment. I'm due to get my teeth cleaned ($60), and my lower partial adjusted (free), so I need to call and make an appointment for next month sometime.

That's great. Most local dentists offer minimal guarantees. My wife had to have a root canal redone in 6 months. Full price for the redo. Although her insurance company stepped in and forced the endodontist to accept half-price.

They tell you that if you have any problems at all, to just call for an appointment. I had so many appointments, that they joked that I just moved into the office.

What about dermatology?
When I'd get exasperated with these image-crazy Orthopedists in Las Vegas I'd zip on down to Tijuana to see Orthopedists down there and they always set me right. The Angeles Hospital (a medical tourism hospital where a number of Canadians get hip and knee replacements - $12k cash) in the Rio Zona district is awesome and no one works there unless they're fluent in English. It has a 6 story hospital and a 11 story tower of specialists. The Orthopedist I saw had just moved down there from Wichita, KS, so I had an American Dr. They also do PRP there, a stem cell procedure. And there are Doctors in San Diego that have dual offices, in both cities.

And I also saw a Dermatologist there on another visit, along with dental care. When I was with Aetna Medicare Advantage I was surprised to see that there were 5 dentists in Tijuana that Aetna would cover.

In many respects, San Diegoans are among the luckiest people in the country, or those living in any city with proximity to Mexico, as they've got top-notch medical specialists and Dentists 14 miles away, and cheap medications. That's why I moved to Tucson, a quick one hour drive to Nogales.

If I were going to be a Dentist, I certainly wouldn't open up an office within 200 miles of the Border. Nor would I open up a Pharmacy.

And don't overlook the International Red Cross Clinic in east Tijuana where it only costs $5 to see a Dr. When I went there 2 years ago, I didn't have to wait but 5 minutes to be seen in the Emergency Room, all for $5 and you don't need to be Mexican to use the facility. The reason there's no long lines, as you'd expect, is $5 is a lot of money to a worker in Tijuana, so they join the long lines at the 10 story Tijuana General Hospital, in the Rio
Zona district, which costs nothing. There's also a Red Cross Clinic in Rosarito Beach.

Tijuana is pretty state of the art as far as medical tourism in Mexico goes, I'm not sure the same applies to Nogales across the way from Arizona. When I think of Nogales, I think of lots of dentist for all the snow birds that go to Arizona from the Midwest but not many medical facilities... I could be wrong though.

I was at the travel fair over the weekend, and one of the women from the Baja Norte booth gave me her card.
