I have a possible job in san diego and pay will be around 100k/year. I currently live in Sacramento and this would be alot of money here but I'm kinda worried it will not be as much as I want it to be in San Diego. I have a 4 person family and I am the sole provider for all of us. I will be looking to rent a 3-4 bedroom house in a decent/safe area and will be working in the Kearny Mesa area. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also what would a 3-4 bedroom home rent for in a nice area? Thanks

We are moving down here from the bay area with about the same income. Poway seem to be our target area due to the school and house are still in the 500-600k area. Rent on 3 br condo are around 2200.00 in this area.

House rentals are from 2000-3500 for 3BR.
100k/year is more then enough to live in SD. Despite what some people say, you do not have to be rich to live here.
I would recommend Buying, for the tax break. you could get a nice house in the 500's in many, many parts of the county.

And $500k of house on $100k of income is still pretty house poor.

You could rent a really nice home for $2500-$3500 depending on what you are looking for. I suggest you look at craigslist. A very safe suburbanite family area that is close to Kearny Mesa would be Tierrasanta. A little bit further away would be Scripps Ranch, which is really nice great schools, then Rancho Penasquitos which is nice too, and Rancho Bernardo which is a little further away. If you want to mix it up you could look into La Jolla (very expensive-the beach) or North PB (also the beach). There are also a little more hip really nice neighborhoods such as Kensington and Mission Hills. These last two areas are not really suburban/family and are a little closer to urban areas. They are beautiful and close to downtown though. If you are looking at suburban/family areas check out the first areas I sent you. I don't know what your ethnicity is, but those areas are predominantly (not entirely) White and Asian. I personally live in Chula Vista/Eastlake, which is really nice and has a great Hispanic and family flavor but that would be a commute up the 805 with traffic for you. Once again I suggest that you search craigslist. Right now I would def. rent not buy. 100K is def. enough if you do not have cars with high payments, and/or a wife that has very expensive tastes. Good luck
