That is a pretty nice area. There is still a lot of partying but not as much as beach side. Hardly ghetto for sure.

I lived down there until I was 33 doing app devo. You will fit in fine. PB/MB is either surfer stoners 6 to an appt, well off students or young-er professionals.

I'm actually looking at living there temporarily when I move to San Diego sometime in the spring. I checked it out in person when I was visiting a couple months ago and the area is fine. You're also really close to the bay/crown point which is really nice.

My only issue with the apartment complex is that it seemed a little too "college" if that makes sense. The apartments weren't in the best shape, but it wasn't a complete dump either.

I plan on staying there on a short term lease until I learn the city better and can make a more informed decision vs locking myself up on a 12 month lease in case I don't like it.

I have known a couple of people who briefly rented there, and let me tell you there is a reason the Avalon complex CONSTANTLY spams craigslist, auto-posting dozens of ads a day; it's because they can't keep residents there past their shortest-term leases.

While the area is fine in general, the entire complex is noisy and kind of "party-central". One of my friends who lived there also told me there were a bunch of car break-ins and a few people who had things stolen off of their balconies. She was more than happy to leave as soon as her lease was up.

My advice? There are MUCH better options if you want to live in the area.

Like what? I'd love to know so I can avoid doing a short term lease all together.

There are Apt buildings all over PB/MB. Don't think for a minute that the landscape will change that much. They won't. It's a party type area.
