I'm so frustrated. We have credit scores in the 800's. Last August we applied for a refinance with Amerisave, highly recommended by people on a financial board. We did everything we were suppose to, and we waited, and waited, and waited.

Now, just before Christmas, they said they wouldn't refi because we didn't have the right insurance (we are in a twin home with no HOA). Because they didn't understand what it is, they wanted us to have private insurance of some sort. We had our insurance agent call them and tell them we had a million dollar policy (required when we bought the home for the same purpose) but that the type of policy they were asking for didn't exist. (They wanted it to be separate from our homeowners or something.)

That's the reason they gave. I'm not sure if it was the fact that UCSD screwed up and sent a bill to collections that we had paid that got reported right around the time and has now been corrected.

Now we are out $400+ on the appraisal etc. and we have to start from scratch. I don't know where to go. I know online places have a lot better rates but I would need to be able to talk to someone to find out that the same thing wasn't going to happen, and my husband refuses to go to a brick and mortar bank, which leaves the credit unions. We bought through Mission Federal and that experience was horrible at the signing.

Can anyone give some personal recommendations. I'm really frustrated.

Thanks,
Caat

Talk to Sheldon at CA mortgages : CA mortgage rates and home loans There are a LOT of great posts about him on the Piggington forum (Forums | Piggington's Econo-Almanac | San Diego Housing Market News and Analysis)

I didn't use him personally but I read so many great things about him that I recommended my good friend that lives in Carlsbad to refinance with him and he said Sheldon was great. So I'd say to give him a try. I'm sure he can help you. Plus, he is local so that should be more convenient as well.

I've refinanced twice with Intergrity First Financial Group (based in San Diego) and both experiences were great. I worked with Sean.

Agree with earlyretirement. Sheldon has a great rep over there on those boards.

We didnt use him but used Dave Husten at Wells in Encinitas for loan originations on two properties. Honest guy, quick to respond and fast close.

.

Yep. And I just spoke with my friend and he said that Sheldon just contacted him the other day for an opportunity to refinance again at a lower rate if he wanted. He refinanced a few months ago but I guess he might do it again.

I've spoken to a few people that used him and all had great things to say and plus he is in Carlsbad like like the OP so this sounds like a no brainer.
