I was wondering what/how is the religious atmosphere/climate in San Diego-especially in the East County area? I've heard rumuors that East County is the Bible belt area of San Diego.. is that true??? Why is that?

Also, it seems like El Cajon is lacking culture/nightlife too.... why is that?

Thanks....

Jason

From what I hear and read, San Diego has the 2nd largest Iraqi population in the USA. The largest is in Detroit.

These Iraqis live primarily in El Cajon and Rancho San Diego. However, most are not Muslim. Their religious belief is Catholic and they are known as Chaldeans. Chaldeans follow the Bible and not Koran.

If you drive thru the commercial streets of El Cajon, you'll see lots of Arabic writing on the business signs. I've done business with many Chaldeans in San Diego. They have high business ethics and are really nice people.

This is one of their local churches: St. Peter Chaldean Cathedral

Saddam tolerated the Chaldeans. The new Iraqi religious leaders do not. 60 Minutes did a segment on the Chaldeans a few years back.
