I have been lurking in these threads for a few months now, and finally decided to come out and say hello. Like others in this thread who are proud to call San Diego their home, so am I. I have lived in many places around the world, but nothing beats this place.

Yes, places like Japan and Chicago have a deep-seated culture and unique food (I have lived in both of those places) but there is something about San Diego that is special; I can't put my finger on it. I was finally blessed enough to get my foot in the door and purchase a lovely condo in Mission Valley recently. Blessed is the word!!

So, thanks for hearing (or reading) me out for a few seconds.

Welcome! I'm currently in Japan myself. I've just recently come across this board, and I too will be moving out to San Diego, for better or for worse, in two months!
Just curious, did you recently move to SD, or have you been there for a while and just felt like shouting from the proverbial rooftop about how awesome it is?

I actually moved here in 2001. It took a while for me to get used to the place, but after a few years, I fell in love with it. (So yes, I'm shouting from the rooftops!!) The housing market at the time was ridiculous, so there was no way I could afford a home, but there was nothing wrong with renting, especially where I lived. When I came back from Japan last year (I went back over there in 2009) the housing market collapsed and I finally had the cash to buy a place. I wish you the best when you come out here!

Thanks, all of you. It is good to call such a beautiful place home, especially when you can appreciate all the little things about it. San Diego isn't perfect, but how can I complain when I get to go to the beach all year round and wake up each day to a gorgeous valley view? Have a nice day, guys.

I certainly hope so. This thread is very helpful because I know so many people who work here but simply can't afford the lifestyle. I get all kinds of questions about it. Especially now with the crazy housing market and lack of jobs, many people give up and head back to where they came from. I know it sucks for them, because San Diego is such a lovely place, but you pay for it...
