I also like Redfin (Real Estate, Homes for Sale, MLS Listings, Agents | Redfin ) the most. I find it's laid out well and has good information like the APN # for property tax look up.

With the APN # you can look up the property tax information: https://www.sdctreastax.com/ebpp3/(g...3a)/start.aspx

I also like Zillow (Real Estate, Homes for Sale and Apartments in the United States | Zillow ) as their past sales history and especially of prior listings sometimes is more detailed vs. other sites.

Some people like SDLookup.com which does have some good features that you can sign up for email alerts. But I don't like the layout of it too much.

Some others like Realtor.com

I agree. To me it's the easiest site that is quick and easy to use. Plus, they have never spammed me. SDLookup has some good features and look up capabilities but it's obviously owned by a realtor(s) because I get random emails once in a while from realtors from that site.

Signing up on all of these places is good and you can create an account and then add it as a "favorite" and you will be notified of any changes or status changes on that property. It's great.

We took full advantage of Redfin when we were looking for our home. They have some great online tools. We dabbled with Truilia and Zillow as well. Zillow had loads of info but their " Zestimate" price of the home was usually way off base.

Absolutely agree Shelby. I mostly used Redfin even though I had my own realtor. My realtor was nice enough but I did almost all of the work choosing which houses I wanted to see and where. I'd let her set up the appointments. And once I made an offer, she did help out with the contracts but that was all just docusign. All the negotiating I pretty much did myself.

Rather than use a Redfin realtor, I negotiated the same thing with MY realtor. Since I was doing almost all of the work, and didn't need much hand-holding and even just met her at the individual properties, I negotiated with her a 1% rebate at the closing of her realtor's commission which the Escrow company rebated back to me at the closing.

Buying a property today is MUCH easier than in the past with all the technology out there. People would be crazy not to take advantage of it. Makes buying a house much easier these days.

The first place we look is Realtor.com. Of course, like anything else, what you see on the net may not be what you will be getting. When we bought our house here, we had picked out about 20 houses we liked, most the realtor ruled out. This isn't just Realtor.com, it is any online source. Just like checking Craigslist for rentals or jobs. Things may seem much better than they are, but at least this is a start, to give you ideas. I think there is also another one: forsalebyowner.com or something like that.

Are zestimates usually over or under? I'm assuming over since our zestimate has gone up 127,000 in one year .lol. As if.
