climate
climate zones. Beaches, valleys, mountains, desert all within an hour or two.
Tecate. In fact, all of Baja Mexico.
Lack of pretentions, generally.

Things I love:

- The FABULOUS weather
- Gorgeous landscape and scenery
- Wonderful and beautiful beaches
- Very open and accepting of all races, cultures, sexual orientation, religions, etc.
- Wonderful neighborhoods that all have their own flavor and feel to it
- Although it's one of the largest cities in the USA, it feels smaller
- People here are VERY laid back for Southern California
- Traffic for being a major city isn't nearly as bad as many other cities around the country.
- Proximity to Los Angeles

Things I'm not so crazy about:

- Job market and economy are very mediocre with fairly low salaries relative to COL
- Lack of industries for a city of this size
- Higher price of real estate

It is weird that for the size of San Diego, the industry is rather small.

It's like everyone makes/made their fortune elsewhere and manages it from a distance while everyone who moved to SD from Iowa prepares those peoples' food.

**Like: The weather, equidistant to beaches, mountains & desert.

**Dislike: Job Market {Its very high skilled or low skilled Job market not much in-between}

**Like: 2 hours to the Los Angeles area

**Dislike: *Some people* can be vain & pretentious but generally MOST people are laid back aka reserved

**Like: Many shopping centers/malls & near several casino resorts in the east county.

** Dislike: Nightmarish commutes at **times coupled with inefficient public transit.

**Like: North Park area its very diverse & home to many bars its our "Uptown"

**Dislike: Soaring cost of living, stagnant wages & shrinking middle class jobs.

**Like: Diversity *mainly* South of the 8 Freeway

San Diego is an expensive place to live & the recession really hit many people in med-skilled & low-skilled jobs very hard. There is also a huge economic disparity here. Many of the Jobs are in north county but the southern part of the county accounts for a large portion of the populous.

I would make a list of what your looking for as far as career, place to live , things to do etc. Before you move here. The current migration trends show a huge spike in the number of San Diegans & other Californians leaving the state. There is also fierce competition for jobs here. Many disenchanted locals have left for greener pastures else where. You definitely need to have a well paying job lined up before you make that leap to California. As I've stated many are jumping ship as we speak.

Iowa?? There are more then enough unemployed locals to fill those jobs. Iowa actually has a more robust economy even though it is predominantly agrarian based. I doubt many are coming form Iowa to be working in minimum wage service jobs all the way in San Diego. But it's really sad that our local economy is so limited embarrassing actually!!
