We are on that bike path on I-56 quite a bit. Thanks for sharing that news futbol. I didn't hear about that and welcome news.
I was caught in the traffic after that accident. Unbelievable and sad. Another bicyclist was seriously injured in that same accident a few years ago.

Anyone on that path can see all the places where cars have left the freeway and driven through the fence.

I'm a big fan of that route, though.

Yeah, I was going to say that you can clearly see a few spots where it's obvious that a car had hit the fence. I was amazed just how many times I've seen that. You wouldn't think that it would happen much but I guess in this day and age where people are driving while drinking/drugs, texting, reading emails, etc. it's just more dangerous than it used to be.

I heard they charged that 18 year old that hit that driver and killed him. What was very sad is I read the young guy that died was on his way to a funeral for a family member. How horribly sad...

A relative of his said he was inhaling something before driving.

Still don't understand what caused that woman to run off the road years ago. She wasn't high on anything, AFAIK. I think she crossed an entire set of lanes before going through the ice plant, up an embankment, and through the fence.

I have lots of friends that ride down through Pendleton from the OC on a regular (like monthly) basis, and I'm not sure which way they go, but it doesn't seem to be a problem for them to get from one area to another.

I'm not sure how germane any of this is for this discussion, though. The bike share bikes are really made for more local commutes as opposed to cross-county ones. They weigh like a bazillion pounds and are built like tanks. You'd be insane to expect to ride one from Downtown to Oceanside as a commuter. Anyone that's serious about commuting across Pendleton or up to Escondido from North Park or any real distance like that is likely going to have thier own road bike.

I think it's a great idea, personally, although I'm not likely to ever use it myself
Well, my point being SD riders are not all concentrated they are spread across the County. When I ride downtown the only place I see riders is on the path from the museum to the base to the North and then it fizzles out. I don't see that many on Nimitz or PCH coming out of downtown. Our downtown is so tiny you can walk it pretty quickly. It would probably do better in PB or OB imo. Downtown is a small flat area surrounded by a ridge that the occasional rider wouldn't even want to attempt. That would be funny trying to see someone trying to crank the hill on Point Loma with one of those.

From what I understand they're putting them downtown, in the center city areas, and in the beach communities, including PB and OB.

I think the rentals on the boardwalk would be a good customer base for sure. I can't imagine being down there for any length of time and not having a 20 $ beater bike to bar hop

Exactly! And what about the North Park/30th street corridor? It's an actual travel destination for beer tourists. Perfect!

After a few days here in NYC, can say that the lock stations have been pretty empty, so it seems to be somewhat successful.

Those areas mentioned in SD would be great candidates.
