What type of work do you do, and how much do you have saved?

I work at a Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. I know I will have to find a job prior to coming, but I'm still curious to know which area would be the best fit. I've started looking for jobs and know that the area has similar facilities. CA is known to have a good recovery community, especially in LA County, but I would rather live in and focus my attention on San Diego. I undersand it will prob take a while, but still would like to know more about the area.

Ultimately I think this is what it comes down to. Definitely blanket statements or assumptions shouldn't be made for people that want to move to the area. But more times than not it seems like people are woefully unprepared for a move out here to San Diego.

The big wildcard for successfully moving out here I think boils down to how much savings you have to tie you over in the event you don't find a job right away, your debt load/obligations that you have each month, your profession and the odds of finding a job here locally and if you have family/friends/support system here locally that can help you or you can stay in their place until you get up on your feet.

Many people moving here have to be honest with themselves and look at some of these factors to see how things stack up for you.
