[quote=shmoov_groovzsd;32150635]From the sounds of it, its the human impact (traffic, congestion etc) more so than San Diego itself as the main issue.[quote]
Yes, but property availability and home affordability are also major factors. (assuming I don't want to live out in the desert)

All very true

LOL Indeed it was.

Who knows, I may move back someday, especially if family needs dictate it. Or maybe it will be my family in Hawaii that needs me and I'll go there. I could make it either one feel like home again just like CO has become home now. Still, I will never let myself become slave to the weather because I have seen a lot more options for 'happiness' open up once I overcome that feeling that perfect weather is the main requirement.

I think in your situation (Someone who can actually afford it), you'd be crazy not to move here! earlyretirement speaks the truth about Santaluz....You are going to love it.

You know that's true. They'll whine and moan about the politics not being the same as back home or that the state has income taxes but the truth is, if you can afford it, the quality of living is extremely good. Even Mitt Romney moved here after saying some pretty down right nasty things about our state during last year's election so that tells me he knows there are a lot of good things too even if that wasn't what his party's base wanted to hear.

The good weather, friendly people, and wealth activities do have a way of winning people over.

As usual, I agree with sdurbanite. I honestly think it's a NO BRAINER for someone in your income level that could easily afford to live in San Diego.

For anyone that reads my posts, you know there are MANY people that I mention shouldn't move to San Diego. But it's the PERFECT place to move for someone that is high net worth and/or high income streams. Especially if you can work from home.

In such a scenario, I'm convinced this is the greatest place on Earth to live with the best weather. And this speaking from someone that has been to over 600 cities around the world. San Diego is pretty fabulous.

It's a no brainer for someone in that situation.

Well, keep rolling your eyes. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing a feeling and sentiment here. Maybe a little over the top and gushy, but that is how I feel. For me, San Diego is as good as it gets. I was born and raised here, my family is here, and I everything I love to do-I can do just about every day of the year. If I was into winter sports, some other type of place would appeal to me, but that is not the case. I don't go onto other city forums and question their happiness or virtually roll my eyes when they talk about their town.

Why not? People often think their own forum is only for them and that anyone who doesn't see it as they do is 'trolling'. Pretty much the same way they feel about literal outsiders in their area.

I think you forgot to read the part where I said, "I'm not trying to bash SD. I still love it there in many ways." I lived in San Diego for a long time (maybe before you were born?). I still go there often to visit my own family and we always have a great time. But I've also lived a lot of other places and enjoyed it there too. None of them were paradise, a few of them felt pretty close to hell (mostly back east) but most were just fine. CO is a good fit for me and my family now. That may change someday but I'll always be glad for the rich experiences I've had here and elsewhere throughout my life.

If you're open to suggestions, I would suggest traveling more and maybe even moving for a while if you can to get some new experiences and perspective. If SD is as great as you think it is (which it may be) then you will appreciate it even more upon return. If you don't have the means to travel, then at least visit some of the other city forums on here to see how other people feel about their own hometowns.

I moved away from San Diego for four years and luckily made it back home. I lived in North Dakota and Washington DC for two years each. I have also done extended periods of time living in Mexico City. All of this was due to career aspirations and climbing the ladder. I used to and to some extent still travel around for work, even to Colorado. Colorado Springs to be exact.

I can find charming moments and fond memories in every place I have lived and visited, but San Diego was always in heart. They wanted to send me to South Texas next, and I wanted to come back to San Diego. It was an awkward conversation and although I may have won the battle and made it back to San Diego, my career has suffered, but that is ok. It is my understanding my time in the "dead pool" is nearing an end...or I may retire.

I think I have enough perspective, well enough for my liking. I am lucky to be back home and the only way I am ever leaving here again is in a pine box.

Agree one hundred percent. I recently had someone call me and offer me a job that would pay more, and they'd pay for relocation. To Milwaukee.

I asked if I could work remotely, and they said no. I said thank you, but I'm not interested.
