Just Go For It ! Sounds like you're young, so no worries. Don't be talked out of your dream. Head straight for Pacific Beach / Mission Beach....you'll meet people, find a place and have a great time. Enjoy it and don't let people who are too scared to do anything tell you how to do your thing. Have a great trip !

University Heights and downtown are in the city, Pacific Beach and Mission Beach are at the beach. For rentals, research out Craigslist, then post the addresses and information here for further comments.

Just go to the areas, and you'll see instantly. The beach areas are Happening - the inland areas are just a place to live and have to drive everywhere to get anywhere. The beach areas are easy on foot or bike. Also, Ocean Beach. Good for easy surfing. I saw rentals on Zillow.com 900.00/mo in O.B. Great town for fun. Enjoy !
