For Christmas, my son gave me a "Trophy Cam", an outdoor camera that is motion activated. We set it up strapped to a Palm tree, just outside our grass line and pointed out towards a hill on our property. We've had pictures of coyotes just about every single night...ranging from 8pm to 5 am. Got a pic of 5 the other morning!

I agree! I love seeing all the wildlife....which is why the camera was the perfect gift for me! My son knows me well.
Have to admit tho....they do make me a tad nervous with our 7 month old puppy. Right now, she is only 44 lbs and thinks every living thing is her best friend. I have to keep her leashed, or she is chasing off after them. ( what recall/training?)
Now....if Big Foot or Mountain Lion show up in the camera footage....I may be outta here! ( Actually, the Mountain Lion is a distinct possibility!)

I've had them walk right past me late at night and they hardly even turned their head. They keep the rat population in check, although, small dogs and cats are also victims.
If you did have a mountain lion in your area, you probably wouldn't be seeing the coyotes around any more.

wow!! where do you live? I just moved to Carlsbad...my apartment looks over a nature preserve though its still a pretty populated area. My cat used to enjoy going outdoors. He's a bit traumatized from the move and has been sleeping a lot and content to hang on the balcony....eventually he's going to start wanting to go outside. I know I can't let him but it scares me if he manages to sneak out!

We are in Fallbrook. You can be sure there are many coyotes in the Nature Preserve...we have friends in Carlsbad who see them all the time in their neighborhood. Our cats are strictly indoor. Many, many small dogs and cats go missing
