recently laid off mortgage professional considering relocation to san diego from New Jersey... realize real estate market is the worst right now but is there any hope finding any job other than something in sales? I have processing, closing warehouse lending and title experience (total of 8 years) and will be looking for something at 40K...how are the salaries?

also wondering if the gaslamp quarter is considered safe? young single female-probably a little paranoid and have never lived in a city...would like to be around the young prof. crowd and have 1500 to spend on rent per mo.

one more thing, i would love to be around friendly people for a change - seeing mixed opinions on this topic- is SD at least a little friendlier than NJ?
I wont know ANYONE so I am hoping that the place is pretty personable and that the people there are outgoing and courteous. (NJ is not so bad-not bashing my hometown just looking for something different...) Thanks in advance for any help!

Mortgage market in Southern California is hemmoraging jobs. I work in IT and am seeing a flood of resumes from people working for mortgage corps. North County SD and Orange County had a lot of mortgage companies that sprung up overnight and are now shutting down just as fast.

Gaslamp is very safe and popular. 1500 a month is a bit on the low side but you should be able to find something.

Thanks very much for the response-appreciate it.

Does anyone happen to know of any lenders that are located in downtown San Diego near the gaslamp district?
