I am familiar with a male Pakistani citizen who served in the Navy and became a U.S. citizen. After serving in the Navy, he became successful in the tech industry in San Diego County. You will be fine in San Diego County.

We actually have a fairly large south Asian community here so you can at least find local grocery stores which specialize in south Asian items plus there are a number of decent and even a few really good restaurants specializing in various regional cuisines of south Asia. Now, granted, most of them are Indian and not Pakistani but there are a few Pakistani restaurants and a fair number of Halal restaurants. I've also noticed most south Asians here seem to get along pretty well with each other even if back home the three governments of the region don't get along that great.

I guess once people get out of their home countries they find they actually have a lot more in common with each other than they have differences.
