We make fairly regular trips San Diego way but never around the time of the Kentucky Derby before. We're not big gamblers but we do enjoy this particular race and there are some small OTB places inside local bars here in Tucson which makes for a fun atmosphere for the race.

Wondering if there were such places in SD? We can see we could go to the Casinos but that's not really what we're looking for. Anywhere in or around the SD area would be fine but if there are such places near the Mission Beach area, that would be even better.

We'll be landing there March 2 -- not a lot of time to seek this out while there for the Derby on the 3rd.

Thank you!

Only thing I have seen is at the Del Mar Racetrack and some casinos. I dont know if OTB is allowed in CA like the way it is in other states.

The casinos are away from the coast, so you may have to make a trek if Del Mar doesnt do it for you.

Surfside is great for OTB. It's on the Del Mar Fairgrounds and just steps from the Del Mar Racetrack, where they host live thoroughbred racing every summer and starting this year, in the Fall!

Thanks, Hitman619, for your suggestion too! I do think that Surfside will be the one for us. If we don't make it, then we'll likely save ourselves a few dollars :-). We like to bet on the Derby but we never seem to win anything!
