It's effective the same day the new mayor comes into office so it's safe to say he was told to resign or be fired.

It's a good move. Go out before the real sh** hits the fan. Not that it will really make a difference to any corrupt cop.

They are not getting caught by the chief.

There's already a thread going about this. But Falconer claims it was his decision alone to resign. A female cop of over a dozen years was found passed out drunk in her car too.

Threat of public embarrassment always works to get someone to move along. What was he making?

Faulconer didn't press him to step down
ROFL
The sad part in all this is, there more good cops than bad cops on the force. The good cops are about to be drugged though the mud because of a few bad ones

Looking back this attempted cover up started the ball rolling
SDPD cop investigated in suspected DUI crash | UTSanDiego.com

If I remember,a camera recorded fellow officers on scene waiting 2 hours to report the crash.

I agree with you on the above alleged drunk driving crash. There is always an unwritten rule in most fields that if there was no harm there is no foul. Since the driver just crashed without hurting someone else perhaps there was a feeling that he had not crossed the line...IF however he was legally intoxicated...it would have been a no brainer.

It is a cliff in most fields. Not a law (thankfully) that can be broken. While discouraging I think that most people know that cops are there not to do harm but the opposite. There are bad apples in every barrel.

For the most part it's not a good cop vs bad cop conversation. It becomes one of those good cops might know some of the bad stuff but ignore it or there are too many bad cops who have to much power and political ties, that nothing can be done.

These things happen all the time all over the world. The sad part is many good cops just turn the other way.

I guess the next question is, then, what are the reasons for this decision to resign? I mean, it couldn't possibly be related to the recent news of corrupt officers in the SDPD, right?

Not sure how the news are twisting the story now, but the version I heard in the morning was that Lansdowne was "retiring."
