That neighborhood is also OK (Mira Mesa, south of MM Blvd and west of I-15). You might find traffic/parking issues because it's close to Miramar JC, but I don't know that - I'm just posing it as a possibility. I don't know for sure about schools, but it's probably going to be better than the Clairemont Mesa location.

Can someone else provide more info on this area?

My in laws live in that neighborhood on the other side of Camino Ruiz. I personally don't care for the neighborhood, but overall its a safe place, its kind of crowded and as Oddstray says parking can be an issue as you get closer to the College and High School. The house is unique in that its two stories, most homes in the area are one.

It doesn't seem to far from the 15 freeway and since you work in Old Town, you would go against traffic.

Gold Coast is a busy street as people use it as an alternate for going east or west and the builder (Pardee Homes) was known mainly for low cost construction (I.E. thin walls and stuff like that) but the house seems to be in good shape for a 40 year old home. That area, eastern Mira Mesa, is about 50% white and 50% Asian but quiet and not prone to crime. The local schools are actually pretty good and I went to them myself 20-30 years ago though back then the area was 80% white and I don't personal experience with them since then. I do know that most of the homes in the area are owner occupied which is a good thing and many of the people who live there also work at the local military base.

Miramar Junior College actually has plenty of on campus parking and the students are too lazy to walk 3-4 blocks just to save a little cash. Most of them will end up parking in one of the giant parking lots or parking structures they have on campus.

Great info, guys, thank you. Looking at some properties in mid-April, and I'm still getting input.

That said, what do you think about the Spring Valley area? Is it too far away? Google Maps are putting it at a 30-40 min commute, depending on traffic and exact location... but it seems to be pretty safe and comfortable for a family. Any other input or advice on the area? (Schools, etc)

We'd probably need something bigger than this, but the price looks great!

Spring Valley can be iffy for a family, and iffy for schools. Sorry, I don't know it well enough to talk about that particular location.

Spring Valley schools would be the La Mesa-Spring Valley School district, and the neighborhood just depends. You have to know the area, and I'm sure that more posters will be able to give you that information.

Spring Valley's reputation is rather blue collar and white trashish.

I have a friend that lives in Spring Valley, and is neither of the above.
