Pay attention to what bradley said. I lived in SD a long time and Lakeside is a place you may not want to be in alone after dark.

Racism is everywhere. There's some tension between Whites and Latinos, but not much. San Diego is a pretty open and comfortable place to live.

In Jamul:

Racist comments spotted on construction sign - 10News.com KGTV ABC10 San Diego

I don't know if someone thought they were being funny, but I don't think this is funny at all.

It appears we have one racial incident per year. Not a bad average for a million people.

I was driving through Lakeside on my way to La Mesa from Barona Casino and I got hungry so I stopped at the Jack In the Box along the main road. There was a woman behind the cash register with a Spanish accent and this middle aged man with his wife and kids walk in and the wife was repeating to him what the cashier was telling her and after the order he went on this bizarre rant about speaking Chinese in America and how China is communist and then was incoherently repeating something about Obama voters and kept it up even after his wife told him to stop. When he saw me and another person looking at him he gave us a dirty look and said "what the **** are you looking at?" The worst part of it was that his kids were hearing it all. East County has some crazy racist and bizzare people. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy snapped at some point.

WOW ranting about how China is communist and about speaking Chinese in America (and Obama voters) is unimaginably...racist? It might be in poor taste or perhaps even driven by mental disorders, but what evidence do you have that the man is racist?

Asking another what he or she is looking at is racist? How do my know it is driven by racism? Do you know how many times minorities (blacks most especially) have asked me that very thing in my lifetime? Are they all racists because I am white?

I do NOT want to minimize mistreatment of others based on racism. I am strongly opposed to it. I just want to ask you to think long and hard before throwing out accusations of racism.

So sayeth the now non-member who was utterly and completely obsessed with race. I am in San Diego often and I do not see this tension.

Well there are Rednecks in the outlying areas, what did you expect? Once you get out of the Coastal cities in California you might as well be in Alabama.

because the man didn't understand what the woman with a Spanish accent was saying so his wife was repeating what she said and then he was rambling about how we might as well make Chinese the official language and how they're communists and don't understand Americans. The woman wasn't even Asian. And then ranting about Obama voters (you know because minorities overwhelmingly vote for candidates like him I'm guessing) I'm not even sure what he said about them. He was just kind of mumbling so it was hard to pick everything up but he was saying it loudly. His statement "what the f are you looking at?" wasnt racist but it sure seemed somewhat aggressive is why I bring it up. If you're saying stuff like that loudly you shouldn't be surprised when people are looking at you. I've lived in East County all my life. Granted, I'm not that old, but that sort of mindset is not that uncommon in East County. No, not everybody there is racist, but it exists. Just because you "visit often" doesn't mean it doesn't exist. How often do you go to East County? Going to North County and staying at some expensive spa/hotel and drinking lattes out at the pool is hardly enough to know about anything culturally that goes on.

Yup, that's East County. Lol I don't know why it attracts so many crazies, seriously.
