I'm more concerned with sinkholes than the San Andreas fault. People's houses/cars falling into a deep pit, not cool.

Rose Canyon area has structures dating back to the 1700s so I'm not too worried about it. Now if there was all those houses built on stilts on Canyon walls are in big trouble.

Lets keep this in context. I dont know the statistics but there are plenty of houses around SD that were built and withstood many quakes for decades from small to large. Quake damage was not something I ever heard of as major concern when buying a home in regards to integrity issue being a known problem.
I am sure there are some instances of damage to some homes, but on the whole was never something I heard of as being the norm. Like 'oh you MUST get EQ insurance because of XYZ.
So it seems like it would be a waste to get quake insurance based on your post and pedro's post. I'll probably stop thinking about it and pass on it. Thanks

Honestly, if "the big One" or something close hits and San Diego gets a lot of damage, most of us won't be worried about earthquake insurance.

If it is that bad the Feds would take over and handle it.

Yup. After the quakes in Japan, my next door neighbor (and others I presume) ran out and got additional coverage for EQs.

After reading through the marketing, its quite vague what is actually covered in regards to SFHs. There is a lot of mention however of condos, which would make sense as oddstray mentioned.

I'm was in the process of moving into a rental house the week of the fires. The moving truck pulled up just as they issued the evacuation order for my neighborhood. The driver and I stared at each other for a few seconds then agreed he should just take the truck outta there and try again later. I was evacuated 2 more times from 2 hotels over my 3 night stay while I delayed the moving arrangements. It was crazy! Have I changed my plans? Nope. I was impressed with how the evacuations were handled by police and schools, the fire fighters worked to the best of their ability and it seemed like if I was a few miles away from the fires, life was going on as normal. I will invest in a fire proof safe and have an evacuation plan. Next time I'll stay in a hotel downtown by the water if we have to leave our house. I thought moving from RSF to Carlsbad was far enough away. Ha!

As if moving wasn't stressful enough and then you had evacuation orders? Good for you for keeping a positive attitude.

Like others have already said, if it's not firestorms, then it's hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc......Choose your poison.
