I lived and was a homeowner in Oceanside for 7 years, also worked in Oceanside. One thing will keep Oceanside from going the way of bankrupted San Bernardino, Stockton, etc. It's in its name...the Pacific ocean coast.

At least it was 8+ years ago. And if one can't live near the beach/ocean -- why live in CA? You think people are just begging to pay all those local and state taxes? LOLOLOLOL (Sorry.)
We happened to be driviing in Encinitas/Carlsbad/Oceanside this weekend. Traffic was congested all over there, and parking was difficult to find - it seemed to be from loads of people headed for the beaches. We didn't notice that Oceanside was any quieter than Encinitas/Carlsbad.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there was some sort of big holiday weekend going on. Wait till after Labor Day when things return to normal.

Where's the emoticon for, "Whoosh ... that was the sound of my point going right over your head."?

I guess so, since you forgot to include the "sarcasm enabled" label on your post.

Good grief, People, there are no quiet places along the coast of Southern CA all summer long! But come post-Labor Day, when kids are back in school, things start to calm down.

Of course.

But, as I was saying, I see no reason it'll be any quieter in Oceanside than in the other beach towns.

Not during the summer. But during the winter -- well -- I spent a lot of time there (on weekends). Unless it's changed greatly over the last few years, OS will be quieter.

Maybe it's changed since you've been there?

Anyway, we'll be going back because there are a few small museums in that area that we want to check out. I'll let you know what we find by way of traffic and bustle in Oceanside compared to other coastal traffic.

Thanks so much, but I'm going back for 10 days. And I'll let you know what I find by way of traffic and bustle in OS compared to other coastal traffic. However, I'm retired -- I don't have to be concerned about traffic at all -- just 'bustle'. :-)
