Hi, wondering if anyone could help...

Pondering going to the Del Mar Fair, and I understand it's 14 per person to get in, and 10 to park the car.

Then there are separate tickets to buy for rides, and one needs to bring plenty of cash on hand for the various food. Correct?

Then on the fair website there's a calender that shows the events, and one of the events is a Bacon Fest thing. I thought oh this could be fun having a lot of bacon treats for purchase...

Then I saw a ticket master link and I saw that there are separate tickets sold for the bacon thing, and they start at 50 bucks per person? The "VIP", whatever that gets you is $80? I'm confused. I was thinking of going with my husband and college age son, especially since they love bacon, but this sounds like it could cost a small fortune. Is the fair really worth it?

Thanks!

No, but that's my opinion. Costco has a package for $60 that includes admission for 4 (2 adults and 2 children, I think) plus parking. There is free parking a distance from the fair. They run shuttles at regular intervals, so that can cut down costs.

Food is expensive, but where else can you find people walking around gnawing on giant turkey legs, foot long corn dogs, deep fried butter (yuk) and deep fried (insert name of any food here)?

I've never gone the last weekend, but I imagine there will be close to 5.6 million people there. In other words, it's going to be very crowded.

Ticketmaster is one giant rip off.

Thanks, yeah, this was a last minute interest since a friend mentioned she and her family went and had a good time. I started remembering the crowds. We'll see if we're in the mood tomorrow, otherwise I think I might buy some krispy kream donuts, throw some bacon bits and watch some videos off the fair on YouTube. :-)

If you take the coaster the fair tripper is 15 bucks and includes fair admittance plus the coaster round trip ride; THERE IS free parking at the Coaster stations and there is a free shuttle from Solana Beach Coaster station to the FAIR.

jUST MAKE SURE YOU LOOK UP THE cOASTER TIMES FOR sATURDAY AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY; THE cOASTER RUNS ARE LIMITED, BUT IF YOU PLAN YOUR TRIP THE TRIP WILL BE SMOOTH.

We buy our tickets at any Albertson's supermarket and use the free park and ride in Horsepark (located east of the I-5, double decker/school bus) to the fair. Parking on the nearby grounds usually include a long walk to the car.

Yep

Plus, do the 2 dollar treats and limit how many rides you do and you can get out of there with a somewhat intact bank account.

My husband and I had a great time last year (we are college age) but left QUITE a bit poorer. Tickets for rides are expensive, 20$ got us both on about 1 ride. Food is expensive also. Combined with parking, entrance fees, rides/games/food we prob spent over 100$ and were only there about an hour. We splurged and went on 3 rides!!!

But if you can afford it its fun We just ate ramen for a week or so afterwards
