North County Inland, North County Coastal, South Bay, East County (south of North County), South of the 8??

This is too general of a discussion.
Pretty much.

I think the poll is too broad. Some of those places I wouldn't consider North County - La Jolla. Also, it doesn't include the inland North County areas - San Marcos, Poway, Escondido etc. What counts as South San Diego? Chula Vista? Coronado? There is no East County on there or Central San Diego either.

You've listed what people here refer to as "north coastal San Diego". "North county" refers, colloquially, to the inland portion of the northern part of the county- escondido, fallbrook, San Marcos, vista, etc.

Nobody really says "South County" but when you do, it implies National City, Bonita, Chula Vista, IB, Otay Mesa, etc.

That leaves out the entire "Central" part of the county, and vast, vast expanses of Eastern San DiegoCounty as well.

Basically this is a longer way of saying what everyone else is about your poll.

I voted north San Diego County, but for balance you could have also listed some cities in south San Diego County like Coronado, La Mesa, Chula Vista, etc.

I think north San Diego has a more pleasant environment overall. Plus almost everyone visiting by car comes through there first (from a visitor's perspective rather than a resident) and the traffic seems to really slow down somewhere between Encinitas and La Jolla depending on time of day, so you may as well just exit there and enjoy it rather than drive like a snail to a less enjoyable area. Convenience and fewer hassles do count when comparing places too, not just amenities. North San Diego is generally safer than south San Diego County too. Just stay away from Vista's central area and you'll be fine. There are so many areas in north SD County to go to before considering Vista that it is not a factor.

La Jolla, Del Mar, the horse racing track, Torrey Pines Regional Park, Legoland in Carlsbad for those with children, the La Costa Resort for avid golfers, Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos, the Pier area in Oceanside, the Stone Craft Beer Brewery and Wild Animal Safari Park in Escondido are all worthwhile to visit. It is also easier to make an excursion to Julian in northeast SD County at approx. 4,000 foot elevation from there, which is one of the few areas in the county to view decent fall colors. Of course, the several miles of beaches along the beautiful coast in north SD County is probably the biggest draw and it is free.

I would also assume Old Town would be in the "North" category as it is two miles north of downtown San Diego. Even if it were not, I have been there twice, so it is off my bucket list.

Flying in by plane might be a slight game changer and I might rank them closer due to less driving hassle to the southern areas from the airport, but I have driven down there on my trips.

BTW, I am assuming downtown San Diego belongs to neither north or south San Diego County for the purposes of this poll. Anyways, I saw a Padres game at Petco Park about seven years ago and walked around the Gaslamp area and had a drink at a bar there, so it is off my bucket list. Plus I am well over 50 now and "hipster" bars are less of a priority. So north San Diego County is likely to be more prominent in the future for me.

I think it is a poor poll, but at the same time, it fits into what many people think about San Diego. The majority of people who want to visit or move to San diego never think of East County. They never think of El Cajon or Santee. They don't think of north county as in places like San Marcos. They don't think of Bonita or Fallbrook or Julian or Ramona. Nobody thinks of Imperial Beach or Chula vista for that matter.

If you look at most posts on this site, listen to what many people ask, the poll fits perfectly into what most people do think about San diego. Nobody who visits San diego ever thinks of going to Santee. And how many people who move from far away ask about "whats it like in Santee?" They ask what's it like in San diego and want to live near the beaches.
