Hi,

Just took a job in San Diego.
Dont know much about the city or surrounding area(s) but want to live in a decent, safe area.

Currently live in Folsom, Ca. which is very nice & safe.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick

Try La Jolla, Coronado Island, or Coronado Cays preferebly right on the beach or on the water.

If those don't work out, then I suggest looking in San Ysidro, Rancho Bernardo, San Carlos or even Alpine.

Oh, and look in Otay Ranch - Chula Vista area as well. There is a state prison (Donavan) South of there just like in Folsom. It's a nice area and you will feel right at home.

Just going with what you gave us to work with

My sister-in-law lives in Folsom. Poway is a good match to Folsom. Of course it depends on where you will be working.

I relocated from Lincoln and work in Sorrento Valley. Nothing here matches Placer or El Dorado counties...it's just different! We found a single family home in the Serra Mesa neighborhood, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1350 sq ft with a nice yard. Our rent is $2350 a month, more than our mortgage payment for our newer 3000 sq ft house in Lincoln. We just sold the house up north and want to wait a little while before we consider buying here. We are still adjusting to sticker shock on home prices.

Anyway, more info from you would be helpful, like where you will be working, what's your budget and if you want a house or condo?? Do you have kids because that will help determine a good area and schools.

Budget??
Space Requirements?
Kids in school?
Place of Employment?

Tradeoffs you are willing to accept?

Yes La Jolla, Coronado Island, or Coronado Cays preferably right on the beach or on the water is where you start (dream big), but unless you are a retired NFL player or movie star, you may have some trouble breaking into the market in those locations.

I think North County Coastal (Carlsbad, Encinitas, Carmel Valley) and Inland (Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Scripps Ranch and Rancho PQ) are where I see many people start that have young school age children.

The College Area is pretty nice. It's where SDSU is and the freeways are very close, so it's easy to go where you want quickly. You might like the Allied Gardens area or San Carlos more. Those are nice areas.
