True, there are lots of strip malls in other areas S.D., but the typical San Diego landscape is rolling hills, canyons and in some areas ocean/bay views. Mira Mesa doesn't have that feel. It feels very Phoenix-ish or Bakersfield-ish to me. I worked nights off of Miramar Road briefly--the whole area empties out completely at night. I felt like I was the only one on the road--it's weird. When Miramar Road turns into La Jolla Village Drive, I feel like I am back in S.D. again.

Mira Mesa looks okay on the surface but there are gangs in the area. Is it Compton ? No but you could still get hurt if your in the wrong place at the wrong time. I saw a large gang brawl break out in a BK. in Mira Mesa a few years ago. Since they plugged so much commercial development into that area. The traffic on week days is awful. You may not be able to get out of your driveway between 4-7pm. if you live anywhere near MM. Blvd.

Oh well, I'm usually in the minority on most viewpoints-I don't see San Diego that way at all. I'm originally from DETROIT, so to me San Diego looks great, strip malls, gang bangers, and all.

That doesn't sound dangerous at all.
In a truly dangerous neighborhood gang fights happen a couple times a month an there is usually a homicide to go along with it.

Well said. I work close to Mira Mesa and there is absolutely nothing scary about it - day or night.

I live in the east side of Mira Mesa (close to Miramar College) for over 5 yrs and I have not had any bad impression of it. I knew that the school district is not as good as Poway but that is all relative. There is definitely a big traffic problem on Mira Mesa Blvd, but I have never noticed a strip mall around. Can anyone tell me? Overall, it is a good residential community compared to some others in the south (again this is relative). I don't understand where the bad reputation came from though.

Dynomite1, are you living in Mira Mesa? Or you just heard some news about Mira Mesa occasionlly? Your words seem a little exaggerated. I live there and I don't even see any gang graffity in Mira Mesa, certainly I do not penetrate all the streets in that area but common places. Go to visit LA and you will be able to tell what a gang community is like.

My reason for hating Mira Mesa? My old man's ex-wife lives there. *lol* Unfortunately, I work right down the road from where she lives! Other than her existence, I've not had any problem in Mira Mesa, day or night.
