We have ants every year. Seems like it's getting worse and worse. I've been fighting them off with Terro for years, but I couldn't keep up with how many new colonies were sprouting up. We noticed the invasions starting early this year, so I finally broke down and hired pest control about 4 months ago. No ants since then.

If you don't mind my asking, metoque, which pest control company did you use? My daughter is having a problem with spiders (black widows in particular) in her house this year and is thinking about hiring a pest control company but isn't sure where to start.

We have seen zero ants this year. It's not the work of your pest control company, there just aren't any ants this year. It could be the cold and rainy winter we had last year. Or it could be the ants are in training underground and waiting to fill out their ranks.

My neighbor across the street has a pest control contract. He was bragging to me about zero ants because he has a pest control contract. I didn't say a thing. If a pest control contract makes you feel good, sign one.

Usually by now, we'll have had one massive invasion but it's been so cool so far this summer, I think it's set the ants back from their normal routine. Although today I found a solitary ant near our kitchen. Just one, but I think it hitched a ride on me from the yard since I was digging footings for some cement and churned up a big nest.

Now that I've simply acknowledged this thread, there will be a million in the house tomorrow.

I've never hired pest control but two years back, I thought about it because we had a cricket invasion, which was weird. Never really had an issue like that but simply sealing every little crack around the foundation, and patching some stucco here and there totally did the trick. The only upside to bigger critters getting in was it being simple to figure out how. Ants? I've seen them blaze some amazing paths. Crickets are thankfully pretty lazy.

I did some level of research and ended up going with Thrasher. No issues at all.

That's not true. We started having ant invasions earlier this year, which was indicative of a bad season at least for my house. I fought a few bouts with Terro and decided I had had enough. No more ants since then, and those invasions started in April.
